UC Berkeley Professor Suspended Following Sexual Harassment Investigation

UC Berkeley is cracking down on sexual harassment following an investigation into allegations that a well-respected architecture professor sexually harassed a student. The professor has been placed on a three year suspension without pay. The university determined that the professor had engaged in a pattern of sexual harassment which created a hostile work environment, spanning from 2012 – 2014.

The campus’s investigation revealed that the professor had spent months trying to flatter a graduate student before touching her thigh and suggesting the two of them take a trip to Las Vegas, according to the allegations and report.

UC Berkeley’s decision to enforce its sexual harassment policy is a positive step in the right direction to addressing widespread sexual harassment in the United States. No one should be subjected to unwelcome comments or conduct.
