More Companies Ending Forced Arbitration in Wake of Google Walkout

Facebook, Airbnb and eBay have followed the lead of Google in ending forced arbitration for their employees who allege complaints of sexual harassment or misconduct in the workplace.

Airbnb’s policy change appears to encompass not just sexual harassment claims, but broader workplace discrimination and harassment claims as well.  Facebook and eBay’s decision to end forced arbitration appears to only address sexual harassment or misconduct in the workplace.

Many employees object to forced arbitration because they feel it allows employers to handle matters privately, which in turn could allow a company to cover up that the complaint was ever alleged.

This shift to end forced arbitration agreements comes on the heels of a walkout at Google in early November 2018, where employees of Google were advocating for changes to Google’s sexual harassment policies, including forced arbitration.
